She Hulk!

She Hulk is a mood…or muse, in this case. For a grittier feel I didn’t bother cleaning up the drawing after scanning and kept the colors very loose. The results, as I expected, are a little mixed. But worth exploring further. And who doesn’t like cats?

Here’s another illustration from my children’s book that unfortunately never got published. I'm happy to share the piece now on my blog so people get a chance to see it. As always, I'm forever grateful for everyone's support.

Story Time

It’s always hard when a project you put your heart and soul into doesn’t see the light of day. This image is from a creator owned (that’s me) series of children’s books that unfortunately never got published. Enough time has passed, though, that I feel I can finally share a few illustrations from it. It’s my hope to repurpose some of the artwork for other projects.

WildStorm

This year marks the 30th Anniversary of WildStorm Productions, a comic book publishing company founded by legendary artist, Jim Lee. I was hired as a junior designer and eventually became art director for their consumer products department.

To honor the many amazing artists and comic book characters that came out of WildStorm, I’ve begun working on some fanart pieces. This is my take on the enigmatic VOID from Jim Lee’s ‘WildCAT’s’ and the feisty FREEFALL from Jeff Scott Campbell’s ‘Gen13’.

 

Heads Up!

These are some recent portrait commissions. They’re a bit of a call back to my youth drawing caricatures at amusement parks. I always have fun discovering unique new ways to draw faces. With these, I started with simple pencil sketches then applied color digitally in Photoshop.

Who Wants Cake?

It’s gotta be somebody’s birthday today out there somewhere. If it is, this one’s for you! I haven’t drawn anything this silly just for fun in quite a while. So it felt really good to flex the imaginative side of my brain again. Here’s hoping everyone gets to have their cake and eat it too!

Spidey Sense

I bought a lot of comic books as a kid and Spider-Man was no exception. My favorite runs were drawn by Rick Leonardi and Sal Buscema, who quickly became huge influences on my work. Here's a quick take on everyone’s favorite web-slinger being attacked by Dr. Octopus!

 

Dog Days

Watch your step and always look out for the little guy, especially our furry friends. It never hurts to give them a treat or two, either.

Penguins!!

There are seventeen breeds of penguins around the world that I know of. These are examples of just a few. Hopefully, I'll get around to drawing the rest of the delightful flightless fellows.

Get Lost

Danger! Will Robinson!! Here's a stylized animated take on the lovable ‘Lost In Space’ character. I think a Saturday morning cartoon based on the iconic Irwin Allen television show could be fantastic.

Judy! Judy! Judy!

Judy Robinson from ‘Lost In Space’ at your service! I might add the pod, chariot or the Jupiter 2 to the background at some point. But for right now I’m calling this one done.

A Penny Saved

This Penny doesn’t need saving! She brings The Pain! The Pain! Why nunchucks? Because Penny Robinson is totally Ninja!…At least, in my animated version of 'Lost In Space' she is. And Yes, I’m planning to draw the entire Robinson horde…in for a penny, as they say.

WildStorm Productions

Back where it all started…WildStorm Productions a.k.a. Homage Studios. These are portrait commissions of my fellow WildStorm alumni, including (with all respect and gratitude) my old boss, Jim Lee, who founded the studio as part Image Comics publishing.

Morticia

Here’s an animated spin on Morticia from the Addams Family, created by cartoonist Charles Addams. Of course, now I feel obliged to draw the entire creepy, kooky, all together ooky cast of characters.

Leaping Lizardmen!

Lizardmen of Mongo Unite!! It’s no secret I’m a huge Flash Gordon fan. So when I was asked to draw a fanart commission of lizardmen I leapt at the chance.

Spoiling for a fight!…it’s Caitlin Fairchild, team leader of GEN13! I mentioned previously that I once worked for WildStorm Productions. So I feel a close connection to the comic book characters from that universe. You can expect to see more WildStorm characters from me soon.

X-Static!

Getting back to my comic book roots…Here's Static Shock! I always preferred the character's original costume as he first appeared in the comics. Drawn by one of my all time comic book heroes, artist Denys Cowan. I hope I did his character justice.

Gotcha!

Here's Princess from Gatchaman…a show known to some as Battle of the Planets. I love that the team always wore the same clothes when they were out of uniform with numbers on their shirts indicating their rank in command. Brilliant idea.

A bit of Saturday morning cartoon fun with He-Man and Teela Na, Sorceress of Castle Grayskull! These two were a lot of fun to draw and even more fun to color. My trip to Eternia got me thinking I should draw fanart commissions more often.
